Being held by a tree (true) being…

Bring your grief, sadness,
loss of hope, emptiness, despair,
– whatever you are feeling –
to a wise, ancient, tree being.
A true, majestic, spirit friend.

Climb up high
in your tree beings branches,
sit or lay down low
near your tree beings trunk.

Take several long, deep, breaths…
let your heaviness and tears
be comforted by the great
loving arms of your tree beings branches.

Let your hurt
be softened
by peace
as you become one
with your tree (true) being.

Remain with your tree being,
as long as you need too.
Close your eyes,
fall asleep, dream…

Exchange your blessings and gratitude.
– whatever it was you needed –
energy, balance, peace,
unconditional love, wisdom,
courage, inner strength…
you can now move forward on your journey.

Always remember,
the potential for a true friend
– a spirit brother or sister –
exists in the heart and frequency
of all living beings!

We only need to feel,
become more receptive and patient
with an open, loving heart.

“When you know how to listen, everyone is the Guru” – Ram Dass

“When you know how to listen,
everyone is the Guru”
– Ram Dass

How do we practice compassionate listening?

We practice compassionate listening by spending time alone in communion with nature and becoming comfortable in our own inner silence.

Only then, do we begin to hear with our heart – our right brain, which is connected with a higher intelligence – present in nature and magnified in all of creation.

Only then, do we begin to tap into a magical vibration – the universal energy of love – which we are and always will be part of.

What does it mean to “commune from the heart”?

To commune from the heart simply means we listen for what the heart is trying to express.

In our relationships and encounters with strangers, we are receptive and open to the feeling, sensory and telepathic messages. Often for humans, these are the messages and clues about what is NOT being expressed, because the left-brain-mind is trying to convince, persuade, manipulate, impress, or control in a person.

We help another person, not by becoming like them and therefore losing our center of Self – but by helping them to see where their words and thoughts are not in harmony with their soul being, heart and body.

We help another person, not by overpowering them with our own thoughts, ideas, or projections of what we would like to see, have affirmed, validated or believed – but by offering a mirror where they have an opportunity to recognise their own light of truth reflected back at them.

Ultimately, we support and encourage a person to feel safe and not to be afraid of their own inner silence… because this is where they access their own innate wisdom and what can only be right and true for them.

Why did we not learn about this in school?

We did not learn about this in school, because instead we have been trained to utilise our left-brain, which is more easily persuaded and conditioned to obey an authoritative structure or power system. Now, more and more our world moves towards a new set of compassionate, feminine values with an appreciation of our heart’s intelligence at the core.

Anyone can practice compassionate listening – it’s not restricted to those with a degree in psychology, any form of elite status, religious or spiritual authority.

Of course, what we are speaking about is not only limited to human exchanges but how we interact and form relationships with all beings (“seen” and “unseen”) and with all of nature.

How do we know when we have achieved a “heart communion”
or practiced “compassionate listening”?

We know when we have achieved a heart communion and practiced compassionate listening because both participants leave a conversation or exchange feeling received, uplifted, fulfilled, energised, joyous, lighter and more open.

These are the feelings and signs, which tell us we have truly listened and communed with and from the heart (as it is, in all of nature and magnified in all of creation).

The Soul Journey is not about outside appearances

The most adventurous journey to embark on; is the journey to yourself,
the most exciting thing to discover; is who you really are,
the most treasured pieces that you can find; are all the pieces of you,
the most special portrait you can recognize; is the portrait of your soul.
– Unknown

If we only think of ourselves and each other in terms of our dense, physical human bodies and mind, life can be incredibly limiting and somewhat shallow and meaningless.

Mainstream society conditions us to be overly focused on external appearances and short term, superficial goals – looking pretty, material wealth, achieving ego and physical results… all of which means absolutely nothing to the soul.

Get to know the soul being you are…the ancient being inside of you, which is eternal, compassionate, authentic, strong, resilient, patient and wise. The soul knows what it means to be authentic and it has nothing to do with outside appearances.

Soul work will always challenge us to go deeper – to remove our false masks, limiting self-beliefs and above all, be honest and true to ourselves and others.

We cannot really get to know our soul unless we are also prepared to crack open our protective shell and allow the light of truth to illuminate our shadow.

For any readers new to the concept of our “shadow” – it basically means our past wounds or, the lost, vulnerable and broken parts of ourselves longing for love, compassion, forgiveness and conscious awareness. “Everyone carries a shadow,” Carl Jung wrote, “and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life the blacker and denser it is.”

The Journey of the Soul is about having the courage and endurance to continuously face these wounds, heal and embrace the depth of our being – every moment… so that we may continue to grow towards self-awareness, authenticity, compassion and soul wisdom. I have come to learn that authenticity means to be in touch with my own vulnerability and that this is strength, honesty and being true to my heart and soul.

The featured image for this post is a photograph I took of an ancient Holm Oak Tree in the Madonie National Park, Sicily. Every time I am in this Park, I connect with a different tree. Many of the Holm Oaks are between 500 to 800 years old. This tree with its huge crack in the center of the trunk was obviously struck by lightning – perhaps hundreds of years ago!

What struck me 🙂 was that although the inner trunk was blackened by the fire and completely hollow,… the tree was still incredibly strong, healthy, huge, majestic and wise.

To climb inside the tree and listen to its wisdom was a magical experience. For me, this majestic being is a celebration and reflection of the Journey of the Soul.

Forest Guardians of the Parco delle Madonie, Sicily

Earlier this week, Juerg and I spent another night in the heart of the Parco delle Madonie, Sicily. Madonie is a well known National Park in Sicily, which we have returned to several times in our campervan. We feel drawn to it’s stunning and unique geological landscape, ancient Oak Trees and rocks, wildlife, spring water and abundance of wild herbs and mushrooms.

The park itself is considered to be a botanical paradise. The highest peak reaches around 2,000 metres and contains some 2,600 of Sicily’s plant species and about 150 of the 200 endemic species. Within the park area there are outcrops of rocks which have been dated at over a 200-million-year period.

I had been longing for a chance to go into the forest alone with my camera. I knew a lot of Roe Deer were living together and thriving in this region of the park (around 15oo meters above sea level). I always love to take photos, but I really was asking to experience the silence, feel the magic of this special place and connect with it’s soul.

Juerg said he was happy to spend some time sorting and researching about some of the wild mushrooms he had recently found in the forest. So I left him in our camper, just as the sun was rising up over the mountains and a new day was beginning. For me, early morning is always a special time to photograph and observe wildlife.

The deeper I walked into the forest, I could feel the presence of many eyes and beings watching my every move. 🙂 Some of the Holm Oak Trees in the park are said to be around 800 years old. I felt truly blessed to be able to spend time in the company of the old, wise trees, many deer, 3 dogs (they appeared to be wild but I was not sure!), beautiful small birds and one mysterious cat. 🙂  I could also hear the noises of wild boars in the far distance.

The magical energy of this special place will remain with me forever. The ancient soul of Sicily is revealing herself to us, in all her beauty and mystery….and not only through my camera lense… but in my own soul memory of another time when we both walked together on her soil.

It is an honour to be here!
